Toco and Back

Hi!

Today my day(which included my fellow group members) stared at 6am. All members gathered at 7:50am in Port Of Spain and it was there the journey began.

What a journey!! In total we visited six beaches from Balandra Bay, 21 Mile Marker Beach, Saline ("Sally") Bay,Salybia Bay, even the Light house with the amazing ocean view upon some rocks. It may not have been a entirely successful day in refernce to selecting the perfect "stay cation" beach from the Northeastern side of Trinidad and Tobago.

Alot of the beaches at this end played off on either side of the equation fabulous scenery with tremendously strong waves and limited amenities or just the other way around. However this will be viewed as the "glass being half full" situation as we certainly saw places we never knew of and appreciated this twin island even more.

We FINALLY(because it was indeed a tremendously long ride to and from the trip) got back to what we called civilization, which was simply the city, between the hour of 3'oclock and 4pm.

I am really knackered so it's a good time to head to bed! Until tomorrow!!

Latest info...

Tonight I took minutes, for today's meeting which started at 4:35 pm. It was generally to discuss the beaches visited over the weekend. Trixie did the recci in the sister isle of Tobago. She was the only one to head over as we decided to "kill two birds with one stone". Elections we held on Monday in TnT, hence Trixie being Tobagonian and she needed to be there for elections as well.

Sherrece and Simone headed to beaches in the west such as Yarra and Paria.

Both destinations in the sister isle and across in the west were suppose to be reccied by us all...but as Trixie headed across, the other ladies just drove across to there side of TnT.

The photos of the beaches visited and random interviews with beach goers assisted us in making a group decision as to which of the selected few would be featured on the Documentary. From Tobago - No man's Island and Pirate's Bay. From the west Yarra was selected.

I will attached the minutes here to present a more detailed look at out meeting.

In class as a group we were asked to meet with the Lecturer and discuss the present situation with the group project. Our Lecturer presented a cool production idea to us for the project, to which we all agreed would add a bit of flavor to the piece.

The next time we meet will be this coming Saturday to head to the eastern part of Trinidad - Toco. This time around beach towels and bath-suits should be packed..this is going to be fun

Cya then

Two to the West and one to the sister Isle.

After chatting with the ladies on both ends of the country, it is safe to say the day was productive. I was unable to attend today but from the phone calls I received they had a blast and were pleased with what they found.

Trixie explained it was indeed beautiful however a bit terrifing though. Simone and Sherrece headed to the west and after viewing a couple not pleasurable ones however eventually they did find one suitable.

I cant wait to see them next week to get more details.

Next week we all head to Toco!

Closer and closer to that point

The group held a meeting held on Thursday. The meeting started with the discussion of the finalized title and would run from 10-15 mins.

Sherrece took minutes today on behalf of the group.

Discussions include such question with answers such as- What makes this projects special? A run down of the persons involved including volunteers, Lifeguards, Beach goers, even the Consultants on this project Desiree Sampson and Jeston Lett.

Tentatives Dates were provided indicate completion dates of the project (based on the scheduled due dates for assignments for this unit):

Project due on: _TBA Jan 2011_

Pre-production completed by: __22nd July 2010__

Production completed by: ___30 September 2010_

Post-production completed by: __1St December 2010

Some information was discussed to the area I will be expected to work on the Sound. I have been suggested to be the Narrator for this project.  Locating sound effects including natural sound
Music, and some sound effects will be from freeplaymusic.com would fall under my job specifiction.

I suggested Elan parle for the musical contribution for a bed for the documentary. So tomorrow God willing the search is on for my cd collection of Elan's music. I'm thinking even Ray Hollman's music as well.

Presentation- How will “Hidden Treasures- Beaches” be exhibited....well thats my baby or atleas some part of it.

Sand, shells, glitter, marbles, gold dust.

To come up with a colour scheme, Trixie came up with Green, Blue and perhaps, beige or white. Simone suggested collecting items from our trip, such as driftwood and stones.I suggested we use Carib bottles (keep it local) and slip a message inside with a stay cation type letter.

We meet again next week. Trixie heads across to the sister island of Tobago to do her part with the reccing for the Doc. Hopefully I can head to some beaches this weekend to just get a feel of the beaches down south.

New Information on the rise

The excitement is certainly increasing. However it has temporarily been shut down by what can be described as a Limitation within the smooth flow of this group project. I am making reference to the most recent changes required as to what should or should not be done, etc.

Earlier on today(before out group meeting)the director emailed me some suggestions to tackle within the group, these said issues and other items were later discussed in the group meeting. It was agreed to split costs evenly and make note of everything purchased for use of project. A budget will be done to have an idea of the cost of producing this documentary.

As for further recci dates. Its as follows

Further recci trips

23rd May 2010 Sherece and Simone will head to the North Coast.

Trixie will be doing Tobago during the week of the 20th – 27th May

We will be visiting the North East Coast – Toco on the 29th May.

The group meeting ended at 5:30pm, it was at this point we headed to class.

More details were given towards the accurate direction we should head with this project. After our visiting UOG Lecturers had meaniful sessions. We can all say full steam ahead with our 10-15 minute video Documentary-Hidden Treasures -Beaches. The intense research we catered for, which we heavily discussed earlier today before school commenced seemed to not be as detrimental as we assumed.

Another meeting is schedule for next week.

Our 1st trip...Productive

The day started off with the guys picking me up somewhere between 9-10 am and off we headed to deep south. The reason for this first trip was to just simply scope out the few beaches in south that were both considered popular as well as not.

Our first limitation for this project was the extremely long wait we endured in the car on the "Mosquito Creek" due to bridge repairs. Which we also encountered on our way back from the beaches.

We took pictures of the signs as we drove deeper down south..what a day.

Our first stop was at Columbus Bay (Los Gallos Point and Corral Point), beautiful..a bit lonely but what a sight. We thought this was certainly a beach worth mentioning. After spending a total of maybe 30 mins or so there..we headed to beach number two, Icacos.

This beach had kinda two parts.. On the first one it was astonishing to see the road simply disappear into the sea because of erosion. Wow. Fallen trees on the sand obstructed beach-goers aim to have a great time on the sand..So this one sadly had to be eliminated from the choices.. Dues to obvious dangerous elements.

Icacos number two. This one was not so much a beach one would recommend to head to for a day of fun in the sun on the beach..as this was mainly a fishing spot. So here was another one good for another reason, but certainly not the one we desire. We were fortunate to see fishermen coming in from a day out in the ocean and it was here I saw the largest fishes I have even seen.

Well imagine my surprise when we drove up on what I knew all my life as "Clifton Hill Beach" to see it abandoned. But as we drove further down we noticed to the the oil and gas operations(which is in close proximity to Clifton Hill), may have been the the beaches relocation.. There we saw tons of beach goers. This one was nice...huts for families, calm waters, long stretch of sand. But we still had to go through the elimination process.

Next we drove to Vessigny Beach. Out of all we viewed today this one had all the facilities needed for visitors...Bathrooms, Cafeterias, Life guards and Secured Parking. It also had calm waters. In my opinion this one takes three stars for those mentioned things.

Today on the whole was good. I learnt about erosion, Stacks a little about fishing and alot about team work. Great day.

It was a fun and very productive day as we butt out heads together to come up with ideas and a general plan.

RECORD OF READINGS AND THINKING: It wasn't too heavy as yet as the shooting hasn't really begun. However I did check out a website called TriniOutdoors which gives a wide scope of the beaches in this twin island sharing pertinent information on them. This is my first contribution towards group research in terms of Content Analysis. The site contained beaches that I too was not aware of.
